Fridays are our Plaza Mexico days for my family and family friends. Well as you know, students didn't have school this Friday because of a teacher in service day. Its kinda nice to go to Plaza Mexico on these days because you get to see your old teachers from elementary school. Occasionally there are teachers there you don't want to see or are you teachers right now. Now seeing any teacher outside of the school walls can be and tends to be somewhat awkward unless you really enjoyed them. I can't say I haven't enjoyed Dykstras class, but my Dad made it very awkward for me when Dykstra stood by my table waiting to pay last Friday morning.
Before I continue, you have to understand my Dad. My Dad likes to make jokes, kinda laughs loud, and knows just how to make me turn bright red. Still gotta say I love him! (:
We drove into the parking lot, and the first thing I said was, "I don't think there is going to be any tables open." My Mom and I walked in to get a table of at least 6 (we weren't sure how many people were coming) and surprisingly we got seated right away. Unfortunately it was in the worst spot, Right smack in front of the counter you pay at. We weren't gonna complain though, cause we would have been waiting a LONG time to get a different seat. So we were sitting and waiting for our food. The next thing you know we are surrounded by a wall of people on all sides. A few teachers we knew but hadn't seen for a while talked to us then went on their way. Just after I got done talking to one of my 5th grade teachers, Mr. Ruger, I realized Dykstra was standing right across the table from me.
That's when I quietly nudged my Mom showing her who my English teacher was. She nonchalantly looked and then didn't say anything. Totally fine by me. My dad on the other hand, had to ask who it was and purposefully say Dkystra's name very loudly. I knew I was going to get red, so I looked down and played with my phone. At this time my Dad is laughing his head off at me. I look up just in time to see Dykstra look over his shoulder with a questioning look at, mainly my Dad, but the table in general. Being my Dad, he took advantage of this opportunity to make yet another comment. EMBARRASSING!! I hope Dykstra didn't hear anything, but I don't think that is the case.
Luckily I know how to get back at my dad, and quickly forgave him. Thanks Dad for this wonderful blog topic. Thanks a ton. Love you. Until next time, good luck exiting stage left.
HAhahah that's priceless. I saw Fistler at Target once and he had his hat on backwards and some stunner shades on and was like, "A. HOLLA WHATCHA DOING! WHAT'S UP!?" *fist bump* hahah it was so awkward. Hahahah gotta love seeing teachers in public places!
ReplyDeleteMr. Ruger = greatest teacher ever!
ReplyDeletebut yeah so you know how I work at newman? well sometimes the kids call me teacher (weird i know) and this weekend I was babysitting one of the kids from the orange room. His next door neighbor happens to be another kid from our room. He was so shocked to see me not at daycare and even told me he thought I stayed there all the time. But it wasn't awkward cuz he loves me and came over and played whiffle ball with us :)
Yeah your dad is very loud and remember the time when he was pushing me on a skateboard around walmart? Yeah fun and scary times with your father!
