what is the definition of normal anyway???

What is the true definition of normal?? Is anyone actually normal?? Well the definition of normal is.... (according to dictionary.com) usual; regular; common; typical, conforming to the standard or the common type; not abnormal; natural. In other words everyone/anything is normal in their own way.

Is my family normal?? I would think so but others would beg to differ.
There are many unique things about my family and one easily noticable one is what we call things.

1. Mokie.
For as long as I can remember there hasn't been a remote for the TV in my house. There has been a mokie though (pronounced like mickey but change the o to and i). Yes my family calls the remote for a TV a mokie and I have learned that is not a normal name. I realized this when I would go to my friends house and ask for the mokie. Usually they would laugh and ask me what I said again. Me, not thinking, would say mockie again. Laughing some more they would respond, you mean the remote? I asked my parents when we started calling the remote a mokie and why we did.  This is the answer i got: "We have called it mokie since as long as I can remember and I don't know why we do, we just started it once and it stuck."  Oh well, it works for me. I actually like the name mokie more then the boring word remote.

2. McMexican
Plaza Mexico is one of the best restraunts around!  I love that place! Its an awesome atmosphere, its fun to try and talk to them in Spanish, and the food is amazing.  But what my dad started calling it is pretty unique. The story behing it goes like this. There once was a McDonalds where Plaza Mexico is now. So what better to call it than Mc (from McDonalds) Mexican (since its a mexican restraunt). The End.  From then on it just became the normal name that my family knows it as.

Okay so i realize these are only two reasons but my friends regularly comment on these two "mis-names." I still love that my family has our own way of talking. Until next time, Exit Stage Left.

  1. I will never call it Plaza Mexico again! But I think I'll still stick to calling the remote, "remote."

  2. Hahah we totally had this discussion the other morning! But honestly I get what you mean. People make fun of me when I call pony tail holders 'hair-ups'. They're like, 'what?! You mean ponytail?' Hahahah.
