The Skunk in the Grill.

The first word that comes to mind when I think of a skunk is smelly. I also think of the fact I found: only female skunks can spray, and they do so to protect their young. No matter how you try and sugar coat it, I think skunks are disgusting. Especially when they are road kill. I really really dislike road kill. Anyway to the point of this blog.

I was riding home with my Mom, Dad, and Sister when somehow we got on the topic of being sprayed with skunks. We have had some close encounters with skunks since my Grandparents live in the country. We got sprayed so bad one time you could still smell it when we pulled into the driveway, after driving for an hour. NASTY!! My Mom and Dad have had more skunk problems than I knew of. My Dad shared one on the way home last night. Here is how he explains it. (But first you must know that 1. my family is a HUGE Hawkeye fan family, and 2. this story was not told with a straight face or without laughter.)

My Dad and Uncle Bubba (Jerry) were driving home from an Iowa Football Game. When you are driving home the sun is in the worst position to drive into. You are constantly fighting it. (Not that that makes a difference on whether or not you are going to go. You suffer through it.) My Dad was in the passenger seat when he noticed something in the road. Uncle Bubba said it was a skunk and that he would just go around it. Just then the skunk decides to stop playing dead and walk across the road the rest of the way. As my Dad put it, "When that happens, there is nothing you can do about it." Uncle Bubba hit the skunk head on. The stench over whelmed them and they pulled into the next car wash they could possibly find. When they looked at the car they discovered that there was actually a little patch of fur stuck to the bottom of the car. GROSS!! But the story gets even better!

Just after running over the skunk my Uncle and Dad look back just in time to see the skunk they just ran over, get some air and fly right into the grill of the vehicle behind them! According to my Dad, it was stuck in there good too. "It was a hot day, so they had to have been using their air conditioning. Hopefully they didn't die from the stench," stated my Dad with some laughs. I hope they got out of that car as fast as possible. The smell of the skunk's spray had to be unbearable. To whoever that was, I hope you have recovered.

So the skunk story, I guess this was just one of those stories that parents tell. They don't really have a point to them but you nod your head and go along with it anyway. Some of them just turn out blog worthy. I hope you liked the story and until I hear another one, Exit Stage Left.
